Woman, Man Nabbed After Attempting To Steal Wallet From Purse At Costco

A woman wanted by five police departments was caught with an accomplice in an attempted credit card theft at Costco on Thursday afternoon, Norwalk Police said.

Ximena Naranjo and Ricardo Torrez-Aravena were charged with criminal attempt at larceny for attempting to steal a wallet out of an elderly victim's purse, according to police. They are also suspects in three additional wallet thefts from Costco for which arrest warrants are being applied for, police said.

"As we approach the holiday season we remind all shoppers that people like this are out there," Norwalk Police said. "It only takes a second for thieves to steal a purse, bag or wallet from a shopping cart or shopping basket when one walks away or becomes distracted. Always be aware of your surroundings and maintain control of your belongings."
